Hormones can defeat your weight loss efforts
At my age I often think of a younger time. It was a time when I ran three to five miles a day fought forest fires responded to other emergencies in national parks and weighed in at a lean but muscular pounds.
Then came medical school residency the rigors of medical practice and the delights of married life and family Now I tip the scales at which marks an excess weight of pounds that I cannot seem to shed Regardless of repeated efforts at dieting and exercise this mass seems to be glued to me I also know better than to blame this on the pursuit of medical practice or heaven forbid married life
In most peopl dieting efforts not only fail but seem to train the body to resist similar dieting efforts in the future. Because most hormones stimulate responses in our bodies over which we have little or no control weight loss beyond a certain point seems futile.
Of course, the hope of medical science is that further revelation concerning these hormones eventually will lead to a multifaceted intervention and weight loss success for many people Yet I cannot help but ponder why the human body has developed this nature. I think the answer is famine.
Since humankind began to walk the face of the earth overcoming famine has been key to survival. With each successive generation facing trial after trial of starvation and disease, our bodies were trained to survive and eventually produce offspring that would naturally process supplies of calories when plentiful and store them for future use.
